Policy Advocacy and campaigns
A major thrust of our work is to comment on social issues and policies related to women to raise public concern and to advocate for changes.
We collaborate with other women's groups in joint actions and campaigns to fight for the improvement of women's rights and welfare.
We have been concerned with:
- The establishment of a central mechanism on women's issues
- Equal rights and legal reforms
- Women's image in the mass media
- Childcare and other welfare policies
- Inheritance rights of indigenous women in the New Territories
- Sex abuse and sexual harassment
- Women's participation in public affairs
Free Legal Advice Helpline on Sexual Harassment
A Free Legal Advice Service for Women was launched in March 1998 to provide advice, counseling and support services to women who suffer from sex discrimination, family status discrimination and sexual harassment. The service includes:
- A hotline for advice for related ordinances
- Legal counsel and support services for women who wish to file a complaint with the Equal Opportunities Commission
Women's Resource Centre
In late 1989, AAF established the Women's Resources Centre for the building of documentation and resources for women. Apart from collecting newspaper clippings, reports and publications on women, the Centre also collects audio-visual resources on women for community education. The Centre is open to the public.
In the new millennium, AAF is planning to computerize the Resources Centre to enable it to become accessible to the public on the Internet, and to re-develop AAF's homepage as a resources hub for women.
Opening hours: 10 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday (Please make appointment by phone.)
How to access our materials: It is free to view the materials in the Centre. (search the online catalogue)
